Reverend Johnathan Wilson
Pastor of New Bethel Baptist Church
Johnathan M. Wilson was born in Pittsburgh, PA. Rev Wilson received his calling into the ministry and was licensed at the age of 18 years old on February 21, 1996 under the Pastorate of Rev Leroy Walker and the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Pittsburgh, PA. New Bethel also ordained him.
After dropping out of high school at a young age, Rev. Wilson went back to school and attended Bidwell Training Center to prepare to take his G.E.D. In 1996, he scored the highest in his class and obtained his G.E.D. that also qualified him for a scholarship to go to Community College of Allegheny County. He attended CCAC in 1996 majoring in Music. Rev. Wilson holds a Associate’s degree in Christian Ministry from the Center for Urban Biblical Ministries at Geneva College, a Bachelor’s degree in Community Ministry from Geneva College, and a Master’s of Divinity degree from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio.
Because of Rev. Wilson’s musical gifts, he has been privileged to serve at many churches as their Minister of Music. He is the former President of the Baptist Minister’s Conference of Pittsburgh & Vicinity. He serves as the Chairman of the board for the Beth-El Mission Ministries and on the board for the Baptist Institute of Pittsburgh. He is a former adjunct instructor for the Center for Urban Biblical Ministries, and the visionary behind the Christian Certifcate Leadership program.
Rev. Wilson worshipped at his home church, New Bethel, where he served as the Executive Pastor until he received a calling from the Second Baptist Church in Rochester, PA to become their new Pastor. He began his duties as the Pastor-Elect at Second Baptist and was installed as the Pastor in 2009. Rev. Wilson served at Second Baptist faithfully, and in the time spent there he successfully organized the church’s missional and fiscal structure that led to the development of a non-profit ministry to serve youth in the area, outreach ministries, growth in membership, exciting worship services that featured choirs and praise teams that lifted up the Name of our Lord. Rev Wilson embraced the call of God to come back home and Pastor the church where he was raised in 2012. The church’s ministry continues to thrive under Pastor Wilson by carrying out the mission of the church which is Building the Kingdom by building people through Worship, Instruction, Fellowship, Evangelism, and Youth Ministry. Under Pastor Wilson’s leadership the church was able to successfully liquidate the mortgage of the church within his first year of service. And the church has just finished a successful capital campaign to pay for a major renovation project that included providing a new roof.
He is married to the former Tamika Williams, and from their union they have four children; Davonte, Kristan, Danielle, and Isaiah.
